Photographer Elizabeth Waugh has released her interpretation of the major Arcana figures of the Tarot. Ms. Waugh’s portraits are a striking and original departure from the five-hundred-year-old cards contextualized for fortune-telling in the eighteenth century. Her Tarot of the City collection contains contemporary versions of tarot archetypes such as Death, The Fool, The Lovers and The Emperor.
The release of the images culminates ten months of production. “The creation of these images has been incredible,” Ms. Waugh notes. “What began as an intriguing but daunting idea has turned into a profound experience of creation.”
