Hannah Choi, born in Lubbock, Texas, is of Korean descent and is a member of Manhattan School of Music's (MSM) Class of '14 where she is pursuing a Professional Studies Certificate in the Graduate Program in Orchestral Performance, studying with Chair Glenn Dicterow and New York Philharmonic violinist Lisa Kim. Before coming to MSM, Hannah studied in the precollege program at the Korean National University of the Arts, entered the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia at age 14 where she graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree and later went to Boston's New England Conservatory where she received her Master of Music degree and a Graduate Diploma.

Hannah Choi

She has performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Christoph Eschenbach, and in Korea, she premiered the Barber concerto, appearing with the Poland National Philharmonic Orchestra. A prizewinner in the Seoul International Music Competition, she has performed with the Korean Symphony Orchestra and was awarded first place in the Korean Music Association competition and the concerto competition of the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, where she performed the Mozart Violin Concerto No. 4. Most recently, she performed with the Daejeon Philharmonic Orchestra and was invited to be a faculty member of the YODJAC Youth Orchestra at the Daejeon Culture and Arts Center. She has also appeared as soloist with the New Seoul Symphony, the Haffner Symphony, and the NEC Philharmonia and in chamber concerts at festivals that include: Yellow Barn Summer Music Festival (2011, 2012), Pacific Music Festival (2009, 2008), Tanglewood Music Festival (2007), New York String Seminar (2005), Encore School for Strings (2003), and the Aspen Summer Music Festival (2001, 2000).

Hannah will be the concertmaster for Manhattan School of Music's Carnegie Hall concert on Sunday, April 13, 2014. The MSM Symphony will perform its debut concert on the main stage at Carnegie Hall in a program conducted by Leonard Slatkin that features Glenn Dicterow, the outgoing concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic.

Hannah Choi is certainly a young musician on the move and someone to keep a close eye on in the future. For all that she has done and will do, Stay Thirsty is very proud to make Hannah Choi our Spring 2014 Spotlight Artist to watch.
